Skills required:
- Casting on (any method) Cable cast-on used for the sample
- Casting off (any method) Knit cast-off used for the sample
- Garter or stockinette stitch. Stockinette used in the sample, garter is totally fine and makes for a really “squishy” cat, but also takes longer to knit, so that’s why I prefer stockinette. You can also experiment with more complex stitch combinations such as double moss stitch.
- Running stitch* For doubling back on previously sewn portions
- Overcast stitch* For the bulk of the hand sewing, while the plush is inside out
- Mattress stitch* For the hand sewing when the plush is stuffed, as well as attaching the head and tail (if using an i-cord)
- Basic braiding, for the tail. You can also make an i-cord tail for an additional challenge!
*hand sewing skills
Materials needed:
- Yarn, any weight, any kind (Colour 1) Sample knitted with “Drops: Air” alpaca wool
- Yarn, any weight, any kind (Colour 2) Sample knitted with “Hagfield Spirit“ acrylic yarn
- Flat or Circular Knitting Needles, size to match yarn used for project. If you knit with really tight tension, consider sizing up your needles
- Scissors
- Sewing/Darning Needle
- Polyfil, soft yarn scraps or anything else to stuff the plush
This pattern makes use of ratios and basic math to either “size up” or “size down” the finished product. While I will outline the specific process for my sample cat, feel free to adjust to your comfort level.

The plush itself is knit flat and then sewn together, so while the knitting is beginner friendly, there are some sewing skills required.
